Real Networks have had their fun over the last few months with Playman and its time to get back to their Real Arcade. What better way than with a sequel to a successful casual game. Luxor The First won countless PC and mobile plaudits so a sequel wasn't too surprising. It might be more of the same on the PC but any mobile sequel is going to have a few new touches.
Our only criticism of the first game were the graphics. It's not to say that the graphics were bad but compared to the PC version the inadequacies of mobile graphics were hugely apparent. The years have passed and java has been improved and the graphics on Luxor 2 are amazing. It's the small details that will make you sit back and admire the solid balls have been replaced and your shooter feels much more dynamic. The sequel has breathed life back into the dusty Egyptian relic.
Here's a quick introduction to the game for those new to the game and those with very bad memories. Luxor is a ball matching game where balls are fired into a chain, match three like colours and watch them disappear. The chain follows a winding path and you have to match all the balls before they reach the pyramid. Your shooter is found at the bottom of the screen and it slides around just by pressing left/right. Push up or 2 to fire the ball and press down or 8 to switch balls. Power ups are randomly given and the graphics for these have been enhanced as well.
The game has 40 levels and follows a standard story mode procedure. The game isn't too hard, assuming we weren't using an easy reviewer's version, but there a few continues to help you along. Luxor 2 also boasts a Survival mode where you can play through any unlocked level until you all the disappear into the pyramid and you lose.
Although the game is a little easy, it is a joy to play. The great graphics and simple gameplay create a good relaxing mind numbing game - which is just what you want on the way to work.
